          The guidelines for each category are set out on this page. If you want to enter a category for which you do not meet the entry requirements stated or want to change categories, you may submit a request by sending us an email with a brief explanation of the reason(s) for your request.

 

          Jack & Jill competitions are designed to highlight skills in social Brazilian Zouk dancing and the ability to dance well with a variety of partners. Competitors enter as individuals, are randomly assigned partners and dance to music selected by Núcleo de Dança Renata Peçanha Events. Male competitors must enter as “leaders” and female competitors must enter as “followers”.

 

DIVISIONS

 

          Novice Category 


          A person should compete in Novice if they have never competed in Brazilian Zouk Jack & Jill competitions before or have not yet obtained BZDC Intermediate level or is not a zouk teacher (amateur dancer)

 

          Intermediate Category 


          A person should request to compete in Intermediate if they have obtained BZDC Intermediate level or are invited by the event organisers due to their extensive dance experience in Brazilian Zouk or is a zouk teacher for more than one year but a request by email (nucleorenatapecanha@gmail.com) is required.

          Each category will only proceed if 5 or more leaders and 5 or more followers register for the relevant category.

 

 

          Important 

         

          1. Acrobatics steps will not be permitted.

         2. In the preliminaries the leader that does not respect the rule will be desclassified and in the finals the couple will be desclassified.

         3. The acrobatic step is characterized by supporting the lady out of the floor for at least 2 seconds or by any passage of the lady in the upside down position supported by the gentleman, even if it is in  less than 2 seconds.

COMPETITOR INFORMATION

 

          IV Interrnational Rio Zouk Competition is a Brazilian Zouk Dance Council (“BZDC”) Registry Event. As such, points are awarded to the winners and place getters (and possibly finalists) of our Jack & Jill Competitions. The BZDC records and tracks every competitor and these points are used to identify the category a person should compete in. There must be a minimum of five couples per category for points to be recorded.
